Miles 5 months-Birth Story

So......i had a baby. He may have turned 5 months old but I feel like it was yesterday. So in that spirit I am going to re-live the day of his birth through this blog again. I will put it on here and then try not to read it again for fear of never giving Isaac that 3rd child he really wants (not right now.....just in the future).

*Note: Never have your first baby 10 days early. Because then you will think that you should have your second baby 20 days early.

November 9th 2011: I am HUUUUGE. Ready to meet this little man and done, done, done being pregnant. I want this baby OUT. My whining convinced my doctor to try to get things moving along with some stripping of the membranes and some special gel. It didn't work. I left the hospital still pregnant and still HUGE. BUUUT....with mild contractions. After a night cuddling with Adlee I had a great nights sleep which meant when I opened my eyes at 7:00 that morning that the contractions had stopped. Induction is scheduled for Monday morning. It will be a long weekend.

November 10th 2011: Isaac rolled over and asked me why I was still pregnant. No kidding. He insists that I have this baby today because he doesn't want to go to work. His paternity leave has been in full swing since Monday and now its Thursday. We decide to get up and go for a little walk and if no baby comes.... he will go into work. As I start brushing my teeth the first painful contraction hits. Hmmmm......this little baby is such a tease. We start timing the contractions and before the walk has even begun they are 2 minutes apart. Why did I think that they needed to warm up at like 10 minutes apart, first? Half a block into the walk and I am hunching over like a crazy person with each contraction. Neighbors are looking at me with trepidation......like, "oh no you don't, not in my yard." Isaac thinks I am being a little dramatic.....Adlee is wondering what kind of jerky brother is causing her mamma so much pain. He deserves "my mount" (time-out) when he finally comes out. I happen to agree with her and give Isaac the look of death after every contraction. A three block walk takes 20 minutes and by the home stretch I am bawling. Isaac decides to stop and chit chat with a neighbor....How he lived to see the actual birth is still a mystery :)
I head in the house and rush past my in-laws to collapse on the stairs with another mother of all contractions. It is time to go to the hospital before I die. Isaac thinks I should just hop in the tub to make sure I am in labor......but if this isn't labor, i fear for the nurse that tells me that. The short ride to the hospital is a complete blur. All I know is I went through a whole box of kleenex crying about how I hate making babies and, "MAKE IT STOP!! MAKE IT STOP, MAKE IT STOP!@$$#!!!" Then I would go silent for the 33 seconds of the contraction because I would stop breathing, hoping to pass out.
We get the the hospital around 9AM. I figured/Hoped and prayed that I wouldn't have to check in since I was just there the day before. I was going to be like, "Remember me? I was not in labor yesterday, but now I am. GET OUT OF MY WAY AND GET ME AN EPIDURAL, STAT!" However, they got me a wheelchair and started asking all these annoying questions. "What's your name? Blah blah, blah. Oh, I know it's painful, just breathe. " Remember I am hoping to pass out and miss the rest of this....so I continue to hold my breath. Once I am registered through all these ridiculous contractions they let me know that I have to wait to be escorted up to Labor and Delivery. It takes all the restraint I have to not book it up there on my own.....and hold the anesthesiologist at knife-point until he gives me an epidural. (for the record I had no weapons on me.....NEVER give a woman in labor a weapon....that would be REALLLLY bad)
9:45AM Once I was in triage the nurse checks me and says, "Now, don't freak out when I tell you this number, (I brace to kick her, If I am still at a 2....she will get kicked) you are at a 6....almost 7. I start to cry.....Harder. "Can I still have an Epidural?"
9:55AM Oh yeah, time to hurry to another room in between contractions for my Heaven on Earth epidural.
10:15AM Epidural in. I immediately want to call down to the front desk to apologize for my rude behavior. The Doctor on call comes in to break my water. She can't seem to do it. (She tried and tried, little did I know she was scratching the heck out of his little head because I had no amniotic fluid between his head and the sac)
10:40AM With each contraction, MIles heartbeat would plummet. Oxygen mask on, nervous looking doctor, and a crowd of people from the nursery rush in.
11:00AM At a 10. Time to push. Since this is my second baby....my mind is already made up that this baby will be out after 1 push. One push in and his heart rate drops down into the 30's. I have a hard time pushing because of my wonderful epidural. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but at that moment I hated being blissfully numb. I blame the hormones for my flip-flop.
11: 50AM One million pushes later......still no baby. The doctor on call is not my cup of tea and this has nothing to do with the hormones. She keeps telling me I am a bad pusher and every time she looks down there, I clam up. She is stressed that his heartbeat keeps going down and decides to use the vacuum.
12 Noon: Miles is BORN. Turns out he was "sunny side up" and that doctor was not smart enough to figure that out. I wasn't a crappy pusher after all. Also, the cord was wrapped around his neck and shoulder...the reason for his heart rate dropping.
12:01 I am in LOVE......again. He had the sweetest little cry and was so warm and lovable on my chest. I forgave him for his role in my horrible morning and the oxygen mask marks on my face :)

He looks EXACTLY like Adlee....minus the big hair bows and jewelry. We are 5 months in and it feels like he has always been in our little family. Adlee is the sweetest big sister. She is helpful and has not let having a baby in the house get in the way of her daily routine. She Loves him and loves to make him laugh. She would show him how to roll over.....only hesitant of him when she could hear him pooping, "ewww, guck Miles! No, no!
